For the Homebuilder

The Propane Council of Texas, a Lone Star State non-profit and proud member of the Texas Association of Builders (TAB), works closely with builders, suppliers, and propane professionals to support reliable, code-compliant home energy solutions across Texas.

As construction costs, material pricing, and labor availability continue to challenge homebuilders, propane offers a flexible energy option that can help control costs without sacrificing performance or comfort. For homes built in rural areas or communities without access to natural gas, propane allows builders to offer high-efficiency home heating systems, water heating, cooking appliances, fireplaces, clothes drying, whole-home backup generators, and outdoor living amenities—often with lower infrastructure costs and greater design flexibility. Texans rely on propane to deliver energy-efficient appliances, reliable backup power, and long-term value—Propane Can Do That.

Why Propane?

Better than electric for you and your homeowners

When natural gas isn’t an option for a new home, going all-electric is the obvious choice, right? Think again. You’re about to discover that for a home’s most energy‑intensive applications, propane is the smarter choice for your customers, and much better for your bottom line.

The energy upgrade that pays

By including propane appliances in the homes you build, you’re giving your customers a whole‑home energy upgrade compared with electric appliances.

Not only that, propane delivers that level of performance and comfort that home buyers will pay a premium to enjoy. In other words, building with propane is an easy way to set your homes above the competition, get more out of every home you build, and keep your business growing.

Propane vs. Electric

PROPANE WORKS HARDER

Because it’s stored onsite, propane is there even when the electricity goes out. Plus, propane can meet all of a home’s major energy needs, inside and out.

PROPANE MEANS COMFORT

Homeowners want a place they can relax and truly feel at home. From more comfortable home heating to better home cooked meals, propane delivers.

PROPANE SAVES MONEY

Propane is so affordable, and propane appliances are so efficient that homeowners can save hundreds of dollars in annual energy costs.

PROPANE IS SUSTAINABLE

Much of America’s electricity is produced by coal-burning power plants. Plus, it takes 2.52 units of electricity to produce and deliver one unit of energy to a home, versus just 1.01 for propane. For sustainability, propane wins hands down.
