EPA Grants Available for Propane School Buses

EPA’s Clean School Bus is open with $250M available this rebate round for school districts that retire a 2010 or older diesel bus and replace it with a cleaner school bus powered by propane or CNG. Schools can start applying now!


School districts just need to complete a very short & easy application by no later than August 19, 2022.


Rebate Amounts Rural or Low Income districts $25,000-$35,000 rebate per new propane bus Other Districts $15,000-$20,000 rebate per new propane bus. School districts can apply for up to 25 buses


The application is straightforward. The school districts can apply at https://www.epa.gov/cleanschoolbus.


Rebates will be awarded based on a lottery system, but priority will be given to rural districts, low-income school districts, and high-need districts. School districts will have six months from the award to submit their purchase orders to EPA.
